New
Ratcheting Strap System: We have
recently introduced a new ratcheting strap system for the UFOS
and the UFOS-TF. It allows the patient, PT, Prosthetist, Doctor,
whomever to tighten the sockets incrementally and more easily.
It is especially good for older patients and patients with diminished
hand strength.
The ratcheting strap is now (January 1, 2004) made with a fiberglass
resin in the material. We are told this change will prevent the
early wear on some of the straps we have seen over the past year.
Thank you and as always please let us know what you think
of this new material and how our straps are functioning.
New
and Improved UFOS!
About one year ago (despite no reported problems) we had our polypropylene
UFOS sockets tested. They were found to be borderline (could break
after prolonged use).
We were given two options:
- Switch to making
our UFOS sockets out of co-poly material, or
- Change the trim
lines to increase the strength of the UFOS sockets and continue
to make them out of polypropylene.
We chose option #1
and began co-poly manufacture of all UFOS sockets about one year
ago.
The
co-poly UFOS sockets that we had been manufacturing were too flexible
in the larger sizes. However, we have NEVER had a polypropylene
socket break reported.
Therefore,
effective immediately, we will adapt option #2 and alter the trim
lines to increase the strength of ALL UFOS sockets. In addition
we will manufacture the: Large, XLarge and XXLarge with polypropylene
material. We will also accept requests to manufacture any size
UFOS with polypropylene material. Please
call with your request by Noon EST (there is no additional charge
for this service).

Revised
Medical/Admin Policies: The DMERCs
have published revised Medical/Admin policies. For Lower Limb
Prosthetics: Effective January 1, 2002, codes L5300 -L5340 have
been deleted. In addition the word replacement has
been removed from codes L5704, L5705, L5706 & L5707, CUSTOM
SHAPED PROTECTIVE COVER (BK,AK,KD & HD). This will allow prosthetists
"to use these codes to provide custom shaped protective covers
on both initial and replacement prostheses." (taken from
AOPA In Advance).
New
Measurements for APOPPS-TF®
Because our APOPPS-TF® sockets
tend to be larger than prosthetists expect (see our FAQ section)
we have recalculated the measurements to more accurately reflect
the actual fitting sizes. Download updated Measurement
